FESTIVAL ORGANISER & LICENSEE
How did you become involved in Hamswell Festival?
I live/lived and grew up there and always kinda wanted to do something like this.
What do you think makes Hamswell Festival so unique?
Hamswell Festival takes the best bits of festivals and raves and melds them into a single entity providing round-the-clock satisfaction for people of all shapes and sizes in an intimate and remote setting. It is not based on big names or corporate sponsorship but on goodwill and quality underground performers. It is also the only festival which takes place at my house, and sitting on the festival site amongst hundreds of other ravers is a uniquely surreal and personal experience that could never be replicated anywhere else.
What is the most memorable moment from Hamswell Festival 2006?
Most memorable Hamswell Festival 06 moments include the Hamswell Festival Allstars jam, when a bunch of us took to the stage to provide post-festival entertainment for the remaining hardcore massive. This was a moment of total release and relaxation after a long week of running around like a maniac. Memorable low point was Sunday morning having to wake up and drive to the supermarket to buy food and appease the wrath of 500 hungry stomachs having got by on minimal sleep for the preceding few days.
What are you most looking forward to in Hamswell Festival 2007?
This year I think the Stafter-Party will be something to look forward to, again being the point at which all responsibility will be relinquished and debauchery will ensue. I am also in possession of certain mycological specimens picked by the light of the full moon in front of the stage that may or may not come to some use in conjunction with selected partners in crime at such a point in time.
What bands, groups, collaborations, collectives/hive-minds are you involved in or have you been involved in, and are not too embarrassed to mention?
I was previously a member of No Remote, which may reassemble in some form or another at some point. I am also setting up Mytea records, an internet-based record label/download site, which is taking a while but which will soon take over the world.
In your audio career, what, if anything, have you overcome to reach your present, sketchy status?
I have overcome the Dark Side, the hordes of Mordor, an addiction to tea, Medusa, Lex Luther, the walls of Jericho, George Bush, The Mint, Jack the Ripper, the Penguin, Razorlight, chronic clumsiness and a broken wrist to reach where I am today.
Why did you bother? Where's the magic? What do you hope to achieve with all your mad skillz?
I hope one day to rule the known universe but in the meantime I would like to able to write, perform and host music for a living. Music is my all-consuming passion, eclipsing everything else when in the throes of tune-making or performing. I will continue to play and write as long as I am able, and also to share my music and help others do the same.
If you were to get out of bed today, what challenges would lie ahead for you, in your chosen field?
The challenges I currently face include how to make the phattest drop in the world, how to manage Hamswell Festival, how to solve global poverty/global warming and what to write next.
What did, or do you study, and where, and why?
I studied Creative Music Technology at Brunel University along with many other Hamswell associates, and did so to learn about my chosen art form and develop my skills, as well as forming a network of soulmates, musical and otherwise.
Why did the chicken cross the road?
Why not?
Incorrect
Sorry Jonny, that's blatently incorrect. The correct answer was in fact... "To get to Hamswell Festival!" The only one of you to give the correct answer was Richard Samuel Tugwell aka The Beatniq-Freq. Congrats Rich, you have won... the chicken. Yum! Save some for me ;)
